Quit Smoking Insomnia
Can insomnia and digestive problems start after a month quitting smoking cigarettes ?
It has been about almost 6 weeks since I Quit Smoking and the past week I feel horrible. I hardly sleep and the sleep I get is very shallow, I feel constantly tired and lightheaded and sick. Also my stomach seems to be upset. I have no fever which would have indicated another illness. So I am wondering can this be caused by the fact that I quit smoking. From what I’ve read usually the withdrawal symptoms are worst the first two weeks, but I felt fine at the beginning and didn’t notice any withdrawal. Can these symptoms be caused by smoking withdrawal ? I am 22 and have smoked since 16 about a pack a day.
Nicotine is a stimulant and now that you don’t have it any more, your digestion is acting up. You can compensate for the missing nicotine by putting spices with your food. In the morning use cinnamon on cereals. For lunch and dinner consider hot pepper sauce, curry, pepper or vinegar where appropriate. If you find that these don’t help, then stop and try peppermint tea to calm your stomach. Vinegar with your meals will make your stomach retain food longer and digest it more fully which may also help you. You may want to switch to simple bland foods like oatmeal or rice for a day or two to give your stomach a chance to settle down.
It’s normal to feel tired, light headed and sick when your stomach has been upset for a few days. No nutrition = feeling crappy.
Glad to hear you stopped smoking.
